BOOK REVIEW: LOVE LETTERS VIRGINIA WOOLF AND VITA SACKVILLE WEST
LOVE LETTERS VIRGINIA WOOLF AND VITA SACKVILLE WEST
This book is a collection of love letters of both literary figures, Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville West. The story started at a dinner party where they first time meet, 1922. Virginia Woolf wrote in her diary how she felt and thought about Vita, so did Vita. First friendship, then love affair between them for twenty long years of their life until the death of Virginia, in 1941.
All letters based novels or books l ever read this one includes into my most favourites. I can't put this down, since the day l started it. I loved many letters. I wish, l have a strong memory to remember such best feelings and words written by a lover to her beloved.
"You will get letters, very reasoned and illuminating, from many people; I cannot write you that sort of letter now, I can only tell you that I am shaken, which may seem to you useless and silly, but which is really a greater tribute than pages of calm appreciation.."
Beginning to end things and their sufferings changed way deeper and way more fascinating. One of the best things is they both have many collaborated works. They always shared, what they are writing and which book they are going to publish. But that's not all, a person can only write into letters as much he/she want to. So Virginia had overthinking and depressing thoughts, Vita knew this but was unknown to what Virginia did, committing suicide.
"Don't mind being as miserable as you like with me - I have a great turn that way myself" - [Virginia Woolf]
Some letters, especially the last ones, made me emotional. Losing a favourite person or loved ones hurt us the most. Overall, it entertained me, l enjoyed the experience of reading those letters.
βAnd darling, write me something - a little poem: prose if nothing else, and we'll sit and talk and talk.β -Virginia Woolf
