BOOK REVIEW: HUM KAHA KE SACHY THE (URDU NOVEL)
Hum Kaha Ke Sachy The is an Urdu novel. It is written by Umera Ahmed, one of the most popular widely-read Urdu fiction novelists and screenplay writers of this era.
*About writer:
Umera Ahmed's works cross the geographical boundaries of Pakistan. Her original Urdu or translated novels in English and Arabic make her an internationally known writer. She won the award of the best writer. She wrote 35 novels, many novellas and short stories. She is writing screenplays and novels still.
Umera Ahmed's style of writing is straightforward. She mostly writes about social issues and problems, also about love, religion, human nature. She put themes in novels that everyone can relate to their lives.
In my university life, I read some of her novels and novellas also short stories. Like, Peer-Kamil, Shere Zaat, La Hasil, Mene Khuwabo Ka Shajar Dekha He, Eman Umeed or Muhabat, Abe Hayat and many more. But after a long time, I recently completed her famous novel, "Hum Kaha Ke Sachy The", which is treading these days on every social media platform as it is adapted for tv play By Hum Tv. I loved the OST of the drama. I am also watching the drama but read the novel first.
*About Novel: (Spoiler Free)
The novel is about three cousins; Mahreen, Mishal and Aswad. Two girls and one boy having different natures. Instead of love, they grew hatred and misunderstandings between them since childhood. They forget that their hatred will lead them to nothing but only to downfall. Jealousy and pride also bring more hatred and evil in humans.
Simply, this novel depicts the Pakistani family system. It shows the bitter reality because mostly it happens where siblings and cousins are of the same age. They always have competition with each other. It is a story of every family, I think, where such issues take place.
The most depressing and psychological affecting thing is Mahreen's struggle. The way the writer presents her conditions and sufferings is fascinating. The reader felt that he/she is with Mahreen in her every pain and struggle. There were times when I cried for her, as I relate it with every girl who is struggling like her. Though she is a fictional character (only in the novel) but l know that like her, many girls in our society are going through much more than I can imagine. It is a bit emotional and psychological affecting because of Mahreen's character and sufferings.
While overall this novel is good. But not as much interesting plot as other Urdu novels of Umera. You also can't deny its success. That's why it is adapted for Tv drama on Hum with the same name, Hum Kaha ke Sachy the.
It was the OST of the drama on Hum Channel that I loved most. I thought I must read the novel first. And I did read it and I am sure many readers did the same. But not loved it as much as the OST, dialogues and some lines which touch the depths of the heart.
Rate it as 4/5.
