BOOK REVIEW:- CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

"Pain and Suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, l think, have great sadness on earth."

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT is a crime fiction and psychological novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. This novel is one of the world-famous classic novels. Top in the list of most-read books. It was published in 1899, in twelve monthly installments. Originally written in the Russian language later translated into English.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a most admirable Russian novelist, philosopher, journalist, essayist, and short-story writer. His writings are mostly psychologically connected to human sufferings.

Crime and punishment is a soul touching novel. The reader goes deep into it. It also even change the thinking and lives of readers.

*Brief overview of Plot:-
A story of a former student, Rodion Raskolnikov who lives in St. Petersburg in Russia. It is also the story of every human who suffers from guilt. Through Raskolnikov's thinking and dreams, Dostoyevsky presents his ideologies and message.

Fyodor Dostoevsky's greatness is that he gives a chance to readers to read the mind of another person (characters) just through their dialogues or by actions. One person is reading the mind of another person, how beautiful art it is!

This novel is a thrilling suspenseful novel, even in the first few chapters it reveals to the reader, who is a murderer, but until the end, the whole novel has great suspense in it.

It started with a crime (murder of two women) and ends with a punishment of three years of hard work. Between those both, the whole novel is based on the guilt and suffering of a human (Raskolnikov).

*Love Story:-
The most important thing is transforming love story. Sonia, a girl that not only changes his life but also his faith in God as well. There are only a few scenes where they are together, but those are all best. She is the only one who made him realize that confession is necessary to get rid of guilt. She also changes his thinking towards God.

*My connection with the novel:-
During the reading, l feel so emotional and deep connection with the pain and suffering of Raskolnikov. His dreams are real and touching. His anguish, disturbed mental health make me feel pity for him.

Maybe, I am going through personal turmoil that's why this novel is more close to my heart. I imagine like these are my sufferings, this is me. Because one way or another every person has done such a thing for which he/she is guilty or feeling bad. So our sufferings are our real punishment for that crime.

*Themes:-
Crime and Punishment have many themes in it, like Crime, suffering, guilt, punishment, family, and how true love can change your thoughts.
The main theme, also the message of the novel is Suffering.

This novel gives me more than my expectations. I would recommend this to every person to read this novel. Explore it, see what you get and what it teaches you.
But also one thing that it is a psychological novel, so only a few will touch its depth.
One of my most favorite novels that leave a huge influence on me.💘
