Book Review: "EVERYTHING IS FUCKED"
"
Don't hope for better. Just be Better."
Everything is fucked a philosophical and
self-help book. In simple, a Life-changing book. Mark Manson's book is so deep
on philosophy, politics, and individual inner conflicts. Everything he
explained with research material. It clarifies things for readers with full
proof, facts and figures, and many examples from a common person's life. This
book is changing the thinking of the reader, who read it deeply and ask themselves, giving a new way to experience the things and world
that the reader never even thinks before.
When we start this book, it sounds like a
philosophical and research thing, which might bore some readers. But the
interesting thing about the book is that it has humor style as well, so if the
reader stuck and read it carefully, he/she will enjoy the reading. Book is
divided into two parts. A brief overview of them, as follows;
Part:
One HOPE
Mark Manson in the first two chapters,
opens our eyes that how we are living with uncomfortable truth and believing in
our self-control, which is an illusion. He told us that there are two brains in
us, Thinking Brain and Feeling Brain. If they are working together and agree on
the same action then we said, we have self-control but in actual, it is an
illusion to give hope to ourselves. He said feeling brain is sensitive and
unreasonable, while thinking the brain is the opposite of it. Because, thinking
brain is helping us with facts, data, and reasons. On the other hand, feeling
brain judge the things on emotions and decide what we deserve and what not. If
bad thing happens to us, feeling brain makes it that we deserve it and then
things happen continuously wrong, so before deciding what is good and bad we
have to think reasonably and with facts.
Further, Mark in the third chapter telling
us about Newton's
Laws of Emotion. He has research on it, so he tells the
life and laws of Isaac Newton interestingly with related examples. Laws are
like these;
1.
There is an equal and opposite
emotional reaction for every action.
2.
Our worth decisions to complete
the gap is result from the Sum of Our emotions.
3.
Our thinking/belief will be the
same about things, until a new experience or strong emotions come against it.
In the fourth chapter, we explore how
religion works. How blindly people go into the wrong direction in the name of
religion thing. We believe in religion that is good, "We all must have
faith in something. Without faith, there is no hope." but we have to look after that. On what we
believe is giving us strength or is it making us dreadful, giving us a fear of
things, follow some myths, and controlling us?
We
find that Mark Manson humorously teaching us the step by step for how to make a
religion of our own. He said religion is all about emotional attachment.
Through this, Mark is digging a pool of
questions to ask from ourselves.
Fifth chapter, Hope is Fucked is more philosophical and interesting, as in it, we read about
Nietzsche and his painful life, how he was mostly ignored in his lifetime. In
short, what Nietzsche presented with the concepts of Slave morality and Master
morality and his ideas on God. Nietzsche believed that we must have to look
beyond hope, we must evolve into something
"beyond good and evil". Hope with Nietzsche is hope for
nothing. As we realize this how before we hope for happiness, less pain, to
enrich our character, but this kind of hope is useless.
From religion to science, and after Nietzsche, Mark with his best lines
talk on Hope and explained to it how fucked hope is. He said that everything is
forever fucked, but things become more fucked when we hope to sustain and
overcome from world's fuckedness. Mark said; Everything is fucked and hope is
both cause and effect of that fuckedness.
Like
if we want hope then our hope should be for this. Hope for the suffering that
comes with freedom, for pain that comes from a feeling of happiness. Because
Mark believes hope wants something to be broken and it will work better for
that. Book changes the life of the reader, who truly get what hope ought to be
for us. More quotations and lines are in this chapter that makes it worth
reading.
Part:
Two Everything is Fucked
This part is what we call life-changing.
This Mark Manson's book is self-help just because of this so amazing part.
In the sixth chapter, Formula of Humanity, lights on how to grow or what maturity is. We come to know the
value of adulthood means truly, how we learn to value and do what is right.
After experiencing the childish and adolescent things and ways of making a
decision. Kant is under focused, another philosopher. We learn that first we
have to become mature, and know what is right for us. Then make big decisions.
In the seventh chapter, Pain is universal
constant, Mark purifies and heal you by telling the
value of pain and how worth it is. Albert Einstein, NgO Dino Diem whose example
also there, so many other research things, facts, and figures. Mark said, Pain
is a universal constant in life. And he makes us realize that it's meaningless
to know the worth of anything, until you have experienced the courage to lose
it. His lines;
"Pain is the currency of our
values. Without the pain of loss (or potential loss), it becomes impossible to
determine the value of anything at
all."
Mark tells us, how pain is making life
meaningful, it also depends upon us what we choose. We read the research and
views of Mark know how to enlighten yourself. Know who you are, how worth your
life should be, how happy one can live with pain. Because to stop or not
wanting pain in life is so dumb and ignoring all the true feelings, things, and
experiences of the world. There should be the ability to feel the pain for a
purpose.
If we get it, our life is change then. Our way of thinking and living
all by adapting and understanding how much pain is important in life. As best
quote from the book; "Life is one never-ending stream of pain, and to
grow is not to find out a way to avoid that stream but, rather, to dive into it
and successfully navigate its depth."
In the eighth chapter, The Feelings Economy, following the previous one this is also about pain and gives the
examples of Freud's views on feeling brain and what on Freud believe, Plato prediction and Fake freedom and Real
freedom. Then drag these views that what results will come if we upgrade the
pain or avoid the pain. About feelings and many more. In simple words, the more
we numb our pain, the worse that pain becomes. So let's enjoy and live that,
don't try to numb pain or wish for less suffering.
Last chapter, The Final Religion, conclusion of the whole book. It summarizes that how bad
algorithms we are. Final lesson for all of us, he motivates and suggests to us
that," Don't hope for better. Just be Better." He continues
that be something better. Be compassionate, more resilient, more humble,
more disciplined. And Be Better Human.
